We had a wonderful group of teens & parents at our Tire Rack Street Survival Teen Driving Program on March 30. A BIG – LOUD thank you to our TRSS team, our staff & in-car coaches, You are the best, and lots of ground work from Maria & Mark Forbes. They were able to secure the venue – The Miami Dade-College North Campus and provide lots of support for me and our fantastic volunteers. We didn’t get the number of teens that we are accustomed to having at our events. Along with proms, and SATs, there was Spring Break. Teaching 16 teens to be better driver is a very good day indeed. Our next TRSS is June 1 at the same location. We will open registration VERY SOON! Or maybe it is when you read this! The course is offered to 16 – 21-year-old (but if you are a little older – we have room – we could take you!). The youngest we can take (legally), 15½ (on the day of the event) and holds a learner’s permit for 6 months and completed at least 25 hours of actual driving time, may qualify to attend. Parents can go to the website – FAQ; review the information. The cost is $95.00. We are all volunteers and much of the funding comes from corporate sponsors and the BMW CCA Foundation. Other car clubs are also a part of the TRSS program, PCA, SCCA, Corvette to name a few. To register go to streetsurvival.org Look for your TRSS Host – Everglades Chapter BMW CCA to register. AND of course, we are always looking for volunteers to help staff the events and instructors – the in-car coaches to teach the teens. If you have any questions, send me an email, I can provide you with information to help you decide. IF you feel that you have what it takes to be an instructor for TRSS, Please go to the website and click on the COACHES link tinyurl.com/y2utvdhn, complete the test to be certified and email your certificate to Tim Beechuk at firstname.lastname@example.org. There are no exceptions – you must be TRSS certified instructor to be in the car with a student. We also need help with “shagging the cones!” (a.k.a. returning them to the prior positions before being hit/moved). Bottom line – we need more volunteers to make these events the success they deserve to be…..PLEASE join us. We plan on having two more events in the north end of the chapter by the end of the year (we hope, we plan, we attempt.) We do need some younger blood in the mix. We need YOU! Seriously! If we can get in and out of the cars, WE are going to instruct, give back, and teach the driving skills to keep them alive! That is why we do it! Saving a teen’s life, saving your life!
MEMBERSHIP: We have had a huge increase in our membership this past year.
